ABOUT GANG MEOW

Introduction

My name is Skye, my pronouns are she/her/they. I identify as a lesbian. I am the creator of Gang Meow. I thought after creating Gang Meow 8 years ago, it was about time that I introduced myself to you all officially.

My Journey

My LGBTQ+ events journey began when I was chosen to be the City Lead for @hersocialapp for Melbourne 12 years ago, where I produced events for the app for over 3.5 years with over 450 attendees at each of the parties. At this point I had never organised an event in my life or ever thought about it. It was completely by chance that I applied & I was chosen for the job. In the end, I was picked out of all the applicants after 3 intensive interviews because I was honest about what I believed the scene for LGBTQ+ women in Melbourne was like, what people were experiencing when socialing & how it could be massively improved for our community.

I honestly walked away from the interview thinking to myself, I was brutally honest, maybe too honest. I thought there was no way that they'd pick me for the job, but it was the exact opposite of what I imagined. It turned out in the end, being true to myself worked. They loved my honesty & I was offered the position.

Why Did I Create Gang Meow?

After producing events for HER for almost 4 years, building a HER Team of 25 girls & having the opportunity to go over to California for a HER Retreat. It gave me the opportunity to see events, not only in other states in Australia but also overseas. I had the opportunity to meet & stay with 30 other City Leads from across the world. I decided to resign from the HER position & I decided to create my own events. My passion for producing Gang Meow events started after experiencing & realising there was basically nothing to do for our community besides clubbing. I found myself extremely bored, unsatisfied & even uncomfortable at the usual LGBTQ+ events. Not only this, there was a massively obvious decline of events for LGBTQ+ women & non binary folks in Melbourne, as well as across the globe.

I had always studied & worked in the community, youth, aged & disability sector, with my latest job being an National Operations Manager in SIL housing in NDIS disability care. Because of this, I had the experience & energy fuelled by passion to aim towards our community. This was my chance to create something really special, a tribe, a place for us all to belong that is full of love & connection.

I am extremely passionate about & devoted to connecting LGBTQ+ individuals, so we have safe environments to truly be our authentic selves, where we can let go & have heaps of fun together, all while building community.

Gang Meow's Return In 2026

After I took a much needed 3 year break, I have decided to re-launch the Gang Meow Party events in March 2026, as I feel like & I’m sure we can all agree that we need these types of events more than ever at a time like this. Where coming together, feeling connected & spending time with like minded LGBTQ+ people is important for all of us as a community.

You will without a doubt, meet me at the next Gang Meow Party. Feel free to come up & say Hi, I would love to meet each & everyone of you.

Love Skye
